Democrats quickly fired away at Rep. David Valadao's record once President Donald Trump signed the "Big Beautiful Bill" that cut taxes and Medicaid funding, saying that because of Valadao's vote, "rural hospitals across America are now at risk of closing."

The House on Thursday passed the signature piece of legislation of President Trump's second term, approving his "big, beautiful bill" by a vote of 218 to 214.

Brian Fitzpatrick, a Pennsylvania Republican who is one of the most moderate in his party, was a surprising 'no' vote against advancing the bill. Unlike other Republicans who have voted 'no' and are now being courted in person by House Republican leaders, Fitzpatrick raced off the floor and away from the chamber after he voted no.
