Tropical Storm Sara is expected to dissipate over or near Mexico's Yucantan Peninsula early next week, eliminating the tropical threat to the U.S. Gulf Coast or Florida, according to the FOX 35 Storm Team and the National Hurricane Center.

A newly formed depression in the Caribbean could enter the Gulf of Mexico as Tropical Sara next week, potentially reducing the chances it could pose a threat to Florida later in the week.

Tropical Storm Sara made landfall in Honduras, bringing catastrophic conditions to parts of Central America, but it might not survive its trek over the Yucatán Peninsula, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Sara, a tropical storm on Friday, was forecast to move into the Gulf of Mexico. It could start to merge into a cold front and move more east toward Florida.

The National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Sara formed in the Caribbean on Thursday and long-term forecast models show it could enter the Gulf

Once the remnants of Sara move into the Gulf of Mexico, a cold front is set to move in from the north. This will create a hostile environment for any tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico and the lingering moisture from Sara will merge with the cold front.

The storm will slow down and graze Honduras Friday into the weekend, producing significant flooding rains as a tropical storm.
