Two paddleboarders outside the swim area of Marine Biological Laboratory' s Stony Beach in Woods Hole saw a shark up close on July 4. According to an advisory Falmouth Town Manager Mike Renshaw released on July 9, the sighting occurred after 7 p.m. when town beach staff were no longer on duty.

Margaret Bowles and Maddie Cronin were paddleboarding and taking photos off of Stoney Beach on the Fourth of July when Bowles noticed an alarming dorsal fin. It's the first confirmed sighting of a great white shark off of Woods Hole in more than 20 years.
